Saleh Waziruddin – St Catharines
Saleh Waziruddin is a 33-year old call centre worker who has seen too many friends laid off without Employment Insurance being enough to live on while record corporate tax cuts result only in record corporate profits. Saleh is a peace activist and opposes any Canadian participation in the wars on Afghanistan and Libya because he believes wars and bombs are not humanitarian aid but, as seen with Yugoslavia and Iraq, only destroy a country and slaughter its civilians.
Saleh was born in Montreal to Indian and Pakistan parents and has lived in Niagara since 2006. Previously Saleh was a peace and civil rights activist in the United States and was deported back to Canada, barred from entering the US after being questioned by the Homeland Security Department about whether he ever “belonged to an anti-American organization”, “expressed anti-American views”, or would “vote for the NDP.” Because of Stephen Harper’s Bill C-42 anyone entering Canada couldt be subjected to the same treatment as this Conservative bill lets the United States decide who can and can’t fly into Canada, violating Canada’s sovereignty.
Saleh will be debating the other candidates at the Sudanese Community Centre on Friday, April 15th, 8 pm at 123 Queenston Street (downtown).
Saleh will make a Communist Party presentation as part of the debate on Cogeco TV on Saturday, Apr 16 at 1:30 pm
